Shades

I’ve decided to go with Barthelme as the new theme. Haven’t really made any structural changes to it, but then again, my previous theme was just a thin coating over Kubrick, so I’m not exactly forging new ground here on the frontier of using canned themes. Barthelme was one of the only themes I found that fit my three most important criteria: (1) don’t suck, (2) don’t make me retch, and (3) work.

I’ll probably be messing with the colors and fonts few more times over the next couple of days as I find things I forgot to change and things that should be changed. I may or may not mess with the sidebar on individual post pages as well, as the archives section stretches the page with short posts. I also need to go back through my entries and fix ones broken by the new style; for example, the screenshots in my “Internet history” entry no longer align properly because the CSS for that was in the old style.css. Finally, I need to figure out whether I’m going to put up a profile page here on the blog or drop it on quiteajolt.com proper and just link to it. Either way, eventually there’ll be an “about” link somewhere on the left.

At least now we’re rocking the humdrum of blue and gray. Progress!

I close with a screenshot from the WordPress Theme Viewer:

sorting options for premade themes with 'Pink' and 'Salmon' choices highlighted

I’m still unsure about why such a fine distinction is necessary, especially given the indefiniteness of other color choices.
